EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Yarrunga is committed to providing equitable opportunities for all children through the development of programs which create stimulating, challenging play and learning experiences based on respect for the child's individual level of development.
Staff value the importance of play and use a variety of teaching strategies to incorporate meaningful play experiences into daily programs. Play can be child-initiated and pleasurable, and so in play children are motivated to learn and develop a positive disposition towards learning.
To achieve positive attachments between children and staff, we work with children in primary care groups where children and families have the opportunity to relate very closely with a particular staff member.
The program offered at Yarrunga Early Learning Centre is based on providing opportunities for children to become active learners while developing skills in all developmental areas, at their own pace and according to their individual needs.
The programs are developed from the staff’s observations of individual children, whole group dynamics, community events/involvement, parent input and previous evaluations.
Our Preschool program includes learning on our ‘Smart Board’. The Smart Board is incorporated into the program at group times and for individual use. It is a very useful tool for expanding on the children’s own interests, as well as introducing the children to the concept and use of computers.
We believe that routines are a vital part of the child's learning and incorporate these naturally throughout the day. Our program is flexible enough to capitalise on spontaneous learning opportunities and changing weather conditions, while encouraging children to take on new challenges.
Staff acknowledge that differences exist and are valuable. Our program is respectful and supportive of all individuals. We encourage the child to pursue his/her own interest in the context of family life and the broader community.
